Lighting: Still image and Moving image

Insidious
Insidious is a horror movie that mainly uses high key lighting and also soft effect to create that it’s a typical warm sunny day with lots of sun light coming into this beautiful home but half way through the trailer the lighting changes to a more low key lighting with lots of shadows in the house to make us look twice at the set to see if the evil supernatural creature is going to be there. Low key lighting is used to set the scene and give off a dark horror and hunted feel to the audience. It creates suspenseful mood and allows the audience to know that something is about to happen. Allot of back lighting is used on the characters to create and also exaggerate a dark distressed look to their face for example at 0:37 they create a distressed look on the mother by using lighting only coming from one side.
G.I Joe
G.I Joe is an action/adventure film that is based on a military superhero or even villain. This image clear symbolises the fact that it’s a superhero/villain based film due to the aspects of the mise en scene, such as the character that is holding the gun and the costume that is used is tightly fitted on his body and also his pose.
The lighting in the image is high key lighting but still creates shadows around the face of the character such as on the face area to create a dark mysterious mood. Back lighting is used to enforce a greater effect of the image of the character; it cleverly exaggerates the body of the character by placing a white background against his black clothing. The colours of black clothing and white background also creates many enigma codes and makes the audience think to themselves is this person good or bad ?
